West Marine Catalog Update
Before and After Examples

These are screenshots of three of the several hundred items for which I updated pages. All are found in the Cabinet and Deck Hardware section of the site, a sublevel of Boat Care. Any further changes to these pages on their site have been made by other team menbers, and since November 15th, 2001. The navigation perimeter was not done by me. My job was to update or create the red product headings, images, and text appearing below the "Description" line.

Table Leg Fastener page before changes. The name (in red) was, in each case, whatever the buyer had put into the database, with a 20 character limit. Photos of shrinkwrapped packages, and sometimes of translucent plastic bags, were not unusual.
Table Leg Fastener page after changes. The red product name was changed to be more descriptive, in accord with the required format. Starting with the shrinkwrapped photo (before), I dropped out the background and separated the pieces so that the mechanism would be clearer, then added the slight shadow to suggest depth. The revised description followed the format template.

Teak Grating page before changes. The image file size was more than 60k. The text was pasted in from the paper catalog description.
Teak Grating page after changes. After cropping, sharpening and re-sampling, the image came down to 11k. The text copy was tightened and formatted for better readability.

There were 3 different "waterproof cap" items, no images, and no descriptions.
A bit of research revealed the correct product name and image. The text follows the alternate format for small items.
